Update on Paid Random Items Restriction for UK Users Under 18

I understand that this update is required under UK law, but it seems likely to negatively impact both developers and players. Developers may lose a significant portion of their player base, and players may find themselves unable to access games they have long enjoyed.

I believe it is the developer’s or game company’s responsibility to keep around their player base, it is their loss. (And also the developers/game companies that implement gambling skinner boxes are extremely questionable, for both forced engagement and money.)

Wouldn’t it be better if you guys just did it like a setting for the products/passes, and let it handled automatically by roblox?

Some others countries in Europe will maybe ban random item sale under 18
I think in Belgium / Netherlands it will allow that only for 18+
About the ban, it applies only it it’s with a currency that you can buy, paid lootboxes are still allowed only if it’s a currency that you can’t buy with robux (only obtainable by playing), it’s something I planned to do
If robux can’t be bought with real money, it would be allowed to buy lootbox with robux

The good thing is that blocking VPN is illegal in Europe, it’s for data protection purpose

If your account has not been ID verified, or is ID verified but is <18, then Roblox will include you in this restriction.

If a game needs to have gambling to be fun then it is not a fun game.

This feature definitely needs to be released in more countries. Gambling has become prevalent on ROBLOX, and well-established game studios that choose not to incorporate gambling mechanics are missing out on potential profits. This is because their competitors use gambling to attract more players. For example, Tower Defense Simulator by Paradoxum Games is a well-crafted game held to a much higher standard than many others, but it lags behind its competitors, simply because the Paradoxum team isn’t focused on making the game seem like you have to gamble for the better towers in the game. However, ROBLOX is pushing them in this direction with the poor DevEx conversion rates

ive been doing some testing on this with vpns and players in those actual countries:

All those apis are great and all, but developers simply refuse to use them, and i know for a fact that you’re not enforcing them on the “big paying” simulator, idle, and pet games.

are there any plans to properly enforce/improve the moderation of those games/experiences, or will this just stay at “guys we added it, not our fault theyre not being used”

i dont know what a paid random item is help

I’m confused. If there’s an option to buy currency with Robux, you can also easily obtain it legitimately. Does that still have to be removed?

I’m still little confused on this update, are we talking about paid items like UGC in experiences, or gamepasses? Because i also got a inbox message about this but it doesn’t tell a lot about anything.

Or is this basically a gamble restriction again but for uk?

UGC Isn’t random? Paid Random Items are stuff like pet eggs, crates, etc

ohh, i understand now Thank you! i kinda thought they was talking about UGC in experiences that you give players with a limited stock. So this basically just a gamble restriction? like they did with few other countrys.

Is there a way to see which of your games are breaking this rule? I was wondering as none of my public games at-least have anything to do with random paid items.

also if it’s one of my private games will it be okay staying private and won’t be moderated if it’s private?

When I went to Belgium recently, I have seen a capsule machine where you insert a coin and you get something and you don’t know before what you will get, it’s why I don’t think the random paid item ban law is real in that country
That thing is still a gambling and some will buy capsules until they get something they wanted

Same here, I randomly received a message about this today claiming that I “indicated through Experience Guidelines that at least one of [my] experiences contains Paid Random Items” but none of my experiences have anything like this. I’m not sure what it’s referring to.

Got the same message, i think it’s just a message annoucement, that telling you what’s going on. they just word it very bad making it sound like your game has something that is breaking the Experience Guidelines.

roblox is smart enough to set up this whole system but not smart enough to make it so i don’t get spammed with emails about this despite me not having a single experience with paid items, let alone random paid items

truly a roblox classic
