Update to Roblox Groups

Along with a complimentary mute and ban feature for the skibikiddies

I meant like a form directly for bug reports, suggestions, and appeals so none of this random group wall nonsense though, the developer would be able to set what form is what.

I completely agree. My 100k member group has been on manual approval for at least 13 years and that alone fixes 99.9% of group-wall related issues. This change, along side the change to the “Groups” button on the sidebar redirecting you to the group search page, will reduce how many users on Roblox interact with groups and communities on the platform. I know that many older players are on Roblox exclusively to help run groups and communities and any moves to reduce their relevance on the platform is a wholly negative one. I understand the need for safety among young users, but this change will simply make it so new Roblox users never get introduced to groups and communities and make it harder for new users to get into those communities.

a) Roblox should improve its moderation. I really do not believe there is an excuse for removing all of these features, group walls, profile messaging, etc. using moderation as the reason. I would immediately volunteer to be a moderator if Roblox would open it up to Americans.

b) I believe we should compromise on this issue and allow group walls to be used for manual approval groups. These groups generally do not have an issue with inappropriate posts or bot posts, especially if the group owner is active. This would also encourage people to use the manual approval feature more.

I see many people praising this update, but as a group owner, I won’t be joining them. I’ve ran groups/communities on Roblox since 2013 and I can say with certainty this update will not be beneficial for that genre of Roblox.

That is a very interesting and valuble insight.

As someone who works with a small team (For a 50,000 member group) and is constantly busy - there is no time for accepting requests. Furthermore, regarding accepting requests, how can you tell if a user is underage or immature. I may be missing some information here, but surely manually accepting people is time consuming and would require frequent moderation. I still stand by the fact that people under the age of 13 practically have no use for group walls. Removing the feature for them would prevent them delving into groups like mine and yours, with tens of thousands of different aged people - and characters.

we should just be able to have a blacklist of words so we can block spam like this
just paste a term into the blacklist and it will prevent people from posting anything with that term in it

I can’t. I do not decline people for being under-age. We have never had any issues with them being in the group or being able to interact with people on the group wall. From what I can tell, this update is trying to combat issues related to open, free join groups that have issues with inappropriate posts and bots, not groups with actual moderation.

It’s really not too bad when you have done it for as long as I have. I can go through hundreds of requests without much sweat. I can understand why someone might have trouble doing it quickly if they are not used to it, but if you assign more than one person to do them, it would be a complete breeze.

Looking at your group, it looks like a UGC group. Our groups are, then, fundamentally different. I own a war “clan” group, if you will, that has daily events in our game and basically requires community interaction. This is why groups like mine have more use for the group wall feature than groups that exist to sell UGC items or exist to host a game on them, both of which are, I assume, mostly used for community feedback and for people to post their ideas.

Actually yes.

Jailbreak gets so many messages that their team wants extra tooling to deal with it, despite them being on Discord already

Or the fact that Roblox has a dedicated help page for support centres for some top Roblox experiences

Existing means to get support and feedback from under 13s is now being cut off, this is not an acceptable outcome for a possible 6 months.

Sorry, I never want to rely on users violating other platforms rules and possibly getting developers and entire servers taken down for doing so.

The thing is now bots are no longer allowed to post in the group walls, that’s the most best update ever, thanks Roblox!

I find it important to note that a feature is not really a Roblox feature, or generally available to us; if it requires us to adopt another platform we do not want to.

I’d like to see Roblox making itself available to integrate with our places of preference to communicate with our communities, instead of platform-locking us.

Also, I didn’t include this in my first message, but what about users who are under 13 and own groups? If I am correct, they can’t even view their own group walls, meaning that they can’t even use the group that they paid for to its full potential.

Good point, but I would like to know the amount of people under the age of 13 who have a useful, positively impacting group or is a developer.

Same experience too! My 265k+ group has been on manual approval since 2017 and moderating my wall has been a breeze. I RARELY come across scams or rule-breaking content on my group. The group wall is a vital part of the way my group functions and operates. We host monthly competitions open for all ages. This new update will make it either significantly harder or outright impossible for those 12 or under to participate, which is a true shame (since a large portion of the Ro-Gymnastics community are tweens).

The bots set the age over 13???

Will 13- be locked from their own group walls?
This can make it harder for 13- people to moderate their own groups, which will result in more scams (or whatever) in those groups

I have a feeling that their groups will just be deleted, or they will have access to post in their groups only. Im not sure, however those options are the only sustainable way of going forward.

The first option would be very evil.
13- hardly get any robux, so 100 is a lot to them, plus all their hard work on games under the group would be gone.

But the second option is the best.
Roblox should have this in mind.

Unfortunately I dont think there is anyone under the age of 13, with an account under the age of 13 that has created a game that positively impacts roblox. The workers at roblox probably took this into account when annnouncing this new feature

Let’s say someone was 12 and was learning to code!
For one year, their group could be hell itself.

Hopefully Roblox figures out the best solution

if they have no way of viewing the group wall as a leader they could just disable the wall for lower ranks

Well, that’s a good point… Maybe, roblox shouldn’t worry about this after all.
Oh, oh, but they should message them! Just to warn them, y’know. Not all 13- view DevForum

yeah they should definitely release a message regarding this
