why are you confusing revenue with profit?
He’s not. He said they have a tight budget even at 2B (their rev is higher.) Roblox is significantly unprofitable
All 10-year-old players do that. They are told “Roblox is greedy,” by content creators.
If you mean in-game, you could use PolicyService and then check if AreAdsAllowed == false
or if #AllowedExternalLinkReferences == 0
. If either of these are the case, the user is probably under 13.
Ok, I read that as sarcasm and highlighted the $2.2B as raking in mountains of cash without factoring in costs.
You just restricted it further. All you guys have been doing lately is removing useful features.
You’re removing useful ways to communicate with people, this was the next best option for <13 users to contact a developer other than discord and the messaging feature and you’re removing it. How are these players supposed to appeal bans or suggest things to developers now?
A WAYYY more reasonable feature is a way to ban users from groups instead of exile, or at the VERY LEAST mute people from talking on the group wall/filter keywords.
I don’t see anyone getting banned on minecraft for the word fat even with the very strict chat reporting where you’re termed if you say 1 swear word
These kids are going to grow up to become MisterObvious from these games.
Y’all actually did it. No way.
Excited for communities, I hope this makes groups a way better place to be in.
I have a feeling this will get rid of a lot of the kids who post to group walls begging for free robux, and instead allow for valuable discussion. I believe this is a good change, as someone who played Roblox during this period of his life Lol
Nice cool, BUT ARE WE STILL WAITING on the genre update to complete? Staff said it would be done by end of October. Why did we get 0 word back from removing like 3 chart sorts it was almost useless or literally a negative update to add these genres?!
They’re just lazy to actually add new things, now a majority of the playerbase loses the function to connect with developers.
If one of these people gets banned, they’re cooked, no appeal form or anything. They also can’t suggest anything to game developers. I see this as a downside
From own experience I can highly recommend placing a gui in game where users can send feedback.
This is a good way to gather individual feedback. Usually the group chats turn into an echo chamber of the same ideas.
To the topic:
I understand the main motivator for this change is security? How will you prevent these new group features from turning out worse than the group wall?
‘Forums’ sounds scary. Please ensure proper moderation, otherwise I fear we’ll be worse off than the current group wall…
55% of Roblox users are over the age of 13. 45% is a huge number to lose, but still worth pointing out the difference.
And Roblox has published the Creator Roadmap and made announcements at RDC 2024, so it’s clear they’re actually adding new things. As politely as possible, are you coming to this conclusion on your own or are you parroting what people are saying online? I don’t see how a user under the age of 13 years old would get banned from a game or group. And considering how Roblox is planning to allow users to get banned from groups entirely, this argument doesn’t make sense.
And while I do agree with suggesting things to game developers, a lot of players who make suggestions would be over the age of 13, and heavily involved with the game and its development.
Yes, Roblox is rated Teen. This is nothing surprising. Yet, losing out on communication with members where a large portion can be falsely banned without any method of appeals, is a bad idea.
I came to this opinion myself, although I do see your point. There are appealable bans, like bug-abusing/glitching, and accidental glitching which can be perceived as exploiting. However, most of these you need to communicate with a moderator somehow, which will now become impossible completely for users <13 with the removal of messaging etc. Also for some weird reason a lot of developers like to put the game rules in a Discord and not in-game, so you wouldn’t be able to see it anyways.
You do not need to be involved in development to make good suggestions, people want things in game and some of these can be good. Removing this entire category of users only benefits Roblox here unless they add some type of way for users to contact certain roles of a group like a form.
Adding onto this, these users should be able to SEE content on the group wall at the minimum, if not post there.
I feel like users 13 and under should be able to view the Group wall without the option to post messages. This way, they can also stay updated on the latest news and announcements regarding our project.
That’s not true. I personally use it a ton for announcements, and there are thousands of old messages I enjoy looking back on. They could just improve it instead of removing it entirely.
My game was gathering people around it for years, and the group wall was the main source of communication. My players talk to each other, suggest ideas and look for new friends to play with. That was our main advantage versus competitors who have similar games with no community at all. Now, with one update, which once again removing some feature providing no alternative, the years of work of my team can (and probably will) significantly fall apart. I believe with such changes, an alternative must be presented the same time as a feature is removed. I support the intention, but I am heavily disappointed with the way it is currently done.
