Updated Studio Start Screen

Unless the plugin only works on place open, it should start working as soon as it’s installed, with no need to reopen places.

Edit: To clarify, plugin installation has gone from:
Open Studio->Install a plugin->Open a place

to

Open Studio->Open a place->Install a plugin

Some more feedback:

Will there be a way to reload the home screen from within studio so it opens without having to minimize your current window and restarting studio some other way?

Also will there be any plans to be able to access features that are currently only available with the web view, like going to your develop page, taking models from users inventory, renaming models and other assets, or the configure places for games/places?

Not sure what’s going on, but studio is feeling like it’s running at 20FPS after this update…

you can still launch studio from your browser for that classic view

It’s something I guess, few hopefully helpful concerns:

  • It now takes 1 more click than before to view my recent file list
  • I now have to move my mouse way more to select a group:
  • In general I have to move my mouse really far to get anywhere
  • The bottom row of cards clips wrong

  • The header bit isn’t floating for some reason so I gotta scroll back up to use it
  • Scrolling is very slow, has weird momentum and disrespects my OS’s scrolling settings which I need for good scrolling
  • Two of the sidebar icons are the same, so they don’t actually mean anything.
  • This page features two more unique scrollbars, none of them are native to my device (or any device).

Furthermore: what was the rationale behind not just stealing the classic twin-pane file explorer layout?

I mean just tracing over google drive looks fine to me

One of my friends is reporting this issue, too.
(He’s going back to working on a Lego Universe framework now lmao)

We have a fix for that issue already in our release pipeline. Unfortunately, we couldn’t ship it with this update.

I posted my feedback in a separate thread because it was too long to be useful as a reply:

Also, can the Ribbon.xml used to tweak the new start page be put into the install folder like RobloxStudioRibbon.xml instead of baked into the exe or wherever it’s hidden? I’d rather tweak the ribbon on the start page through mods than disable it through fast flags.

Edit: EWwwwww. There is no separate xml – disabling elements is hardcoded into the exe. That’s yucky. You guys should just use a separate ribbon xml for the landing.

I dislike how there is no tab to view the start page.

I ALWAYS made sure the start page was visible in case I needed to navigate between different games and places. Now, I have to go to the website for that which makes much more of an inconvenience.

I think Roblox should have tested more and made sure all the same features that everyone loved and used were there before releasing this, such as the start page, group games were easier, navigation to plugins, etc.

Edit: I didn’t read Echo’s reply before posting this. It goes under his reply as well. /shrug

Yep, we’ve got to stop testing on production guys. It’s been a common trend for features to be disabled when feedback was asked for only after they were shipped. 20th time or whatnot isn’t a coincidence.

Can you guys please not get rid of the Start Page tab, or at least provide some alternative where we can browse the site through Studio beyond just using the “Find Plugins” window?
I don’t navigate these tabs separately, I still use the /develop page very frequently to find my assets.

It’s still possible to access it by opening View → Start Page once a place has been opened, and then Studio functions as it always has, but

  1. I don’t know if Roblox plans to remove that or not
  2. It’s a pain to repeatedly open dummy places to access missing features from the new layout – it’d be nice if this was supported more officially, either by classic view or solving one of the longest outstanding issues of Studio and allow us to manage our games properly natively.

It’s not there for me…

I always used it.

Weird, it’s still here for me:

Maybe the mod manager I’m using prevented Roblox from updating the ribbon.xml and removing it.

I still do not have the update. Is there anyway to force Studio to check for a new version? I don’t feel like uninstalling again.

Possibly. I always used the feature and now it’s not there.

It was disabled.

Also, you don’t need to update. The feature was enabled with a fast flag which allows Roblox to enable/disable the feature at will.

This is exactly the case.
