Upgraded Materials, Material Manager, and More!

When are you guys going to add terrain grass for parts, or even a built-in water like part? This will help with customizability and really bring the best out of roblox. Great update so far!

This update is very nice, but I found something that is REALLY bad for workflow related things.

If you try to set a groups materials all at once, it won’t work, you have to open up the model and select the parts individually to set them via Material Manager.

It’s really bad that they made it this way because not only does it make switching out materials for models very frustrating, but when you have a LOT of models it becomes a painstaking process.

I really hope an engineer finds this, it’s bad. The update itself is really good though and I like the direction it’s headed, Material Manager does have a lot of caveats though and they definitely need fixing, such as this one.

What I was thinking about is that they could make some sort of quick action dropdown menu that would show recently used materials, with the ability to search for materials as well. Something like the dropdown menu that we have in the explorer and the viewport.

Just so you know, you can resize the categories panel on the left-hand side of Material Manager. This should give you some more space to work with for now.

The update doesn’t fit my game (which isn’t made to be realistic).
I am very thankful that it isn’t forced.

Terrain colors should be unadjusted. But it may not be the original value due to precision. For example, if the new color goes beyond 255, it will be clampped to 255 and can not be convert back to the orignal value. If this is not the case, could you provide the material and color settings that doesn’t convert?

I beg you please…just add grass decoration (like terrain grass decoration) on the parts please if you think you can then please consider adding this required feature; a lot of games use the grass material on the parts and it just looks empty Without the decoration of the grass feature, I beg of you!

The default Grass material in my game uses these colors: 96, 188, 145.
Here’s a GIF of the material staying as the 2022 material color after being disabled:

Speaking of grass, I would love to if they added…

  • Decoration collisions (so that players and pretty much anything can interact with decorations, as well as to get rid of the annoying noclipping behavior).
  • Decoration manager so that we can have different decorations (of our own) and not just a hardcoded grass that is built-in.
  • Ability to paint multiple decorations in a single terrain instance.

Use cases:

Wheat decoration for a farming simulator

Interactable grass (like in the Hack Week of 2018)

I’ve been doing the same as you, I worked on a build with these new materials in mind and have been waiting for this since. Super glad to see it return with even better looking textures!
