Upgraded Materials, Material Manager, and More!

Now THIS is what I wanted to hear. This is an incredible improvement. It looks so much more natural now. How well does it work with materials that are supposed to be aligned, though, like planks and bricks? Also, could we see the option for studs offset on materials?

Great update!, However I think the Metal material looks way too smooth and reflective, like by default its more reflective than glass.

Also, any plans in adding the ability of using the decoration grass effect on parts too? Maybe the ability to manually set its own individual color too?

This update is awesome. Want to know what would make it more awesome? An option to toggle between material manager and the material dropdown. Or just have both in the toolbar. Imo this new way to apply materials is a LOT more tedious rather than a quick and easy dropdown. Perhaps a concept like this could work?

(Im a scripter, not a UI designer so dont judge me too hard  )

This update is really cool, and I can’t wait to see what I can accomplish with these new material options! Just hopefully we can get a way to make our workflow a bit more similar to before

That or we could just extend the toolbar and have both buttons next to each other :person_shrugging:

The New sand is pretty dark at its whitest color. Should be as white as possibly imaginable.

I’m really liking this, all I did was download some random materials on textures.com and the build feels completely different

Opt-in by default only applies to new places. Older places will not change.

Perfect! Thank you for planning ahead like that.

Amazing update. Now my games will look more realistic! Fabric is lighter, remember when the Fabric material was very dark, even on the lightest color??

Metal and concrete are less rough. These new materials are amazing!

I am really liking this update.

Nice Update for terrain devs, especially my friend Wolves

Docked. Right next to the output. My screen size is the same size as an average laptop in the device emulator.

I was really excited for this (I still am in some way), but I wound up disappointed after I checked it out at my place.

Before.

After.

Because the new Fabric material is smaller and finer than the old, from afar it makes the it look like smooth plastic.

Old.

New.

This is a real epic update, i can finally make ugly-looking building bricks!!

Now not really related to the amazing texturas, but for the love of god, could you PLEASE make terrain water not blend with other terrain? I assure you that a lot of people will thank that!

This is wonderful and glad to hear older games will remain opt out.
However with all this ability to Tint Textures, Tint Terrain, Tint Parts, Tint Clothes, will we ever get to Tint SurfaceAppearance ColorMaps?

Does this mean we can use these in published games now?

Or, is this still limited to Studio beta?

metal is significantly brighter now

Its nice that there is optionality between classic and 2022 materials, but wouldn’t it have made more sense to keep the classic materials as a variant so they could be used side by side? the 2022 materials arent nearly as destructive as the original test builds, but I still would prefer the by-part optionality.

Overall, This seems like a very good upgrade to the older system however I must admit the new material manager does slow down workflow a bit. Perhaps there is a way where we can keep the old menu or at least add a new one that doesn’t slow down workflow as much.

If I were to describe it, the old dropdown menu feels like the color dropdown and the new menu feels like the select color window. Sure the select color window has more to offer but it slows down workflow if we had to pull that up every time when selecting a color. It just isn’t ideal

I recommend moving the Material manager to the view tab, make the material manager accessible from properties similar to the select color window, and adding dropdown menu similar to the old material dropdown menu

This update is great!! The new materials really do pop in more cases and look less generic and less like tiles now, the visions for better looking landscapes are coming true

With these new materials and tools at hand i messed around with one of the template games in studio(the village one), and this is what i got.(I am not the best in realism)

Overall, great update to the materials. But for the ui in the material manager however, it’s pretty big, one suggestion i would make is to display each material in smaller icons or in a grid. And lastly, could you add a slider to the left hand of the screen when creating custom materials? Currently, the prompt takes up my entire screen height and i cant resize it

I also would like to add that the new textures for the already existing materials, although a more welcome addition compared to last time, still feel like a bad addition due to their implementation. I believe that it would be better if we had the option to use both of the materials side by side rather than having an overall toggle for the old and new materials. Perhaps they could be added as a preset variant
