Personally I feel like if the new materials without a classic counterpart can be used alongside the classic materials, they should have just done something to make the classic and new variants usable alongside eachother. Surely there’s a way.
The Create Variant window is too long for my screen, and it’s not resizable. I cannot view or use the additional properties or the save button
Example of me trying to move and resize it:
I’ve tried reinstalling studio and this did not fix the issue
The literal entire material manager is for per-part freedom in selecting variants of new materials. It seems silly to not have 2022 materials be a preset material variant instead of a toggle switch in the same update as this materials manager
roblox really be like “hey heres a tool that lets you swap freely between material variants in game and completely unrelated here is a brand new material variant that doesn’t work with that new tool that I just told you about”
It seems that Plastic actually lost quality in the 2022 materials:

these are an amazing improvement over the last beta!
unfortunately several of the textures still have terrible tiling problems. namely: cobblestone, crackedLava, grass, marble, pebble, salt, and woodPlanks. for the last one, it’s really only the issue that there is no horizontal variation, and the wood just forms massive long lines of identically-colored planks.
To expand on what I said earlier:
The current Fabric Material. Admittedly a little rough, but you can tell what it is, even from far off. It looks nice, does its job.
The new Fabric Material. It doesn’t look like fabric at first glance, and you have to get close to see the detail.
Even muting the colours quite a bit doesn’t help the new material look good.
In fact, you can’t tell it is fabric unless you get extremely close to it.
I think fabric either needs some tweaking, or maybe allow us to combine both old mats with the new ones? I genuinely think they’re great, and want to use them, as they make my hallway look absolutely amazing.
I just wish Fabric looked better.
Incredibly excited to use this!
I spent some time messing around with the Material Manager in Studio and I have found the new system to be a tad bit clunky. A lot of steps to add a material; a whole different window with a very small apply button. I’m sure as time passes it’ll be gotten used to however, that’s just an observation at the moment.
Please do consider re-adding the old material dropdown menu
The new menu is great, however, it’s a lot more tedious to change materials now (but is a lot more user friendly for adding/editing materials and such)
It’s also far too large, even if I do resize the window. My screen is quite small, so I need as much space as possible. The issue of the large window only exists right now though. I am hoping the old material menu is re-added as well, this will “solve” this large window issue for me.
You mean you have to get close to see the detail like you do with real fabric?
The old texture was way too huge, it was like a zoomed in texture of a wool sock.
It would be nice though if you could scale the texture, then we could both be happy.
Yeah, I agree. That, and the fact that the button on the Material Manager window is so small, it takes a bit of extra focus to click it.
You know the dropdown menu is still in the part properties window. I never even used that one everyone is complaining about on the toolbar.
Hello @TenBlocke, thank you for pointing this out. We definitely have to make the size suitable for all screen sizes. Thank you again!
Please do consider re-adding the old materials dropdown as well! It will make things a lot speedier, unless this was already mentioned.
I know it’s still there but that’s a lot more tedious to use. I have a small screen so I avoid having any tabs open aside from what I absolutely need.
The materials tab in properties is also a lot smaller to work with compared to the old materials window. The old window was also great as it was a dropdown menu rather than a separate tab.
Will this be automatically turned on for all games? I hope it only gets turned to default for new places.
Yeah, I guess. Its funny how some buttons people can’t live without and other ppl didn’t even know they were there and never used. The material dropdown in the properties tab lets you cycle through with arrow keys, you don’t even have to look at the list.
You can literally flip through all of the materials in seconds with your arrow keys.
I can’t work without properties opened at all times.
I never used that color button either, I use the one in properties.
wild.
That might indeed be what’s needed here; texture scaling. One should be able to look at something made of fabric from a distance away, and tell it’s fabric. I love the new materials, but they make my banners and the carpet all look like plastic, which clashes terribly with the other materials around them.
One thing I though was cool was how some of the terrain textures that were added can be colored in ways that make them look like other substances, maybe one of those could replace your fabric.
I noticed those houses that used the old fabric for rooftops look really weird now. They need a coarse texture to look like a roof.
@Seagoonia, thank you for the video! Yes, it’s noted and have to be updated, thank you again for catching it!
They look so much better! this update is amazing
