[BETA] Revamped Asset Manager

Thanks for the feedback!

To create a new place in your game, you can right-click anywhere in the browser on the right side and there should be an option “Add New Place”

As for old and new assets, to help with that, you can try sorting the assets based on “Date Modified” or “Date Created” (Date Created is a column you can show by right-clicking on the list header if viewing in list mode)

If you have more feedback and questions, don’t hesitate to let us know!

Alright, thank you for the clarifications!
I also don’t have a big computer screen, I wonder if it would be possible to not hide completely the search bar until I need to scale then it takes more space on my screen.
Instead of hiding the search bar I would like to suggest to add it above the rest in the asset manager window :

– > (currently)

→ ?

EDIT :
I just noticed this very small button, I didn’t know what this button was doing, I thought it would scale the page but no ! So feel free to ignore my suggestion!

Also I reverted to the old asset manager because when I imported assets, they loaded endlessly, and when I put in the old one, it loaded correctly.

This is cool, but our game isnt saving… is there a new button for that or is this a bug?

If only there was a banner on the top of the forums that linked to the status page detailing the problem…

This is a chance I have been wanting for a long time. I look forward to testing it.

thanks for the feedback! This is on our radar, and we’re targeting support later this year. We’ll have more details on the timing the next couple of months.

that is so bad it was put as early this year and now it is later this year :cry:

When saving assets to roblox, can you please make it so the game owner group is selected as the Creator to upload to by default please?

I have to manually select my group each time I wanna upload something manually, Asset Manager doesn’t do this, so Save To shouldn’t too.

I’m sorry, but can you guys start releasing products that’re at least close to being done? By the looks of it this isn’t even a third complete. Right now it offers nothing over the old one. It’s less intuitive, its harder to use, it’s cluttered, and the very worst part is when you upload an asset it doesn’t show up, so you can quickly import it.

I understand that you must test them, but there are features that’ve been in beta for over 3 years, and others that’ve been completely abandoned.

For additional context, 2+ year old beta features can no longer have feedback provided to the devs responsible for said beta feature as the devforum posts were automatically locked due to no response from the devs responsible for making it production-ready.

i very much agree. The new explorer ruined the Ctrl-Z shortcut for Moon Animator, forcing me to use Shift-Z instead, even if I disabled the new explorer.

Makes importing assets 10x harder. What if you have an explorer full of assets, and you decide to import a model, how would you find the assets you just imported?

Hi Witch,
Thanks for your feedback. I help lead the product team for this project.

To level with you, we thought a lot about this release. We had a lot of lively debate back and forth about the exact same sentiment you have. You’re right to point out that products in the past have suffered these kinds of failures of commitment.

The thing that made us move forward was two fold:
(1) We thought the expanded group search capabilities could help serve some creators really suffering there today
(2) We have a very passionate team dedicated and committed to working on this project – and we have plans (actively in progress) to make this the absolute best it can be.

I’ll be sure to share your notes directly with the team – if you have any specific frustrations you’d like to highlight beyond your post please feel free to express them further. This information is invaluable to us.

Thanks for keeping us honest

Love to see staff actively replying here. Here’s a ton of feedback from experimenting with the new Asset Manager.

Since this is going to replace the Toolbox for viewing your own assets, I feel like an important thing to take note of is that this should not break any existing workflow with the current Toolbox. Some of my feedback is heavily based around this.

In list mode, I want to be able to drag and rearrange these horizontal tabs, so e.g. I can have “Date Created” be 2nd in the list instead of 4th.

image

It appears you can still rearrange the tabs by right-clicking on them and then unchecking+rechecking them in the order you want, but just being able to click+drag them would be much better UX.

Scroll bars should be easier to see. It took me a few minutes to realize they were even there.

image

Compare this to the Toolbox’s scroll bar:

image

The new Asset Manager doesn’t seem to know the difference between group IDs and user IDs, because when I click on my group’s inventory (group ID 5936551), it displays all of the assets owned by the user with ID 5936551.

The arrows on the “Filter items” menu point to the right, yet the sub-menu opens on the left side, sometimes appearing off the screen. I’d expect it to open on the right.

image

Under the “Filter items” menu, the “Creator” tab displays hundreds of users and groups I’ve never heard of before. I can only assume that it’s grabbed the name of every single creator I have ever happen to purchase an asset from, over the 10+ years that I’ve had this account for. This seems quite counterintuitive; shouldn’t it just include a text box to type the name of a user/group there?

image

In grid mode, asset names do not wrap around to the 2nd line. This is a step down from how the Toolbox worked… I can’t tell what any of these assets are!

image image

Not all of these buttons display tooltips.

image image

If this is going to replace the Toolbox (at least for viewing your own assets), it would make sense for me to set up the window in the same way I previously had the Toolbox, which was always docked on the left side of the screen next to the viewport. I’m used to that.

Unfortunately, this button is all the way at the bottom and I have to constantly move my mouse all the way down to click it, and then back up to select an inventory. Could it be moved to a different location where it’s easier to access, like at the top? It’s also kind of hard to see here, so some people might miss it.

Additionally, when I click that button to open the sidebar and select a different inventory, it should automatically close the sidebar upon selecting a different inventory, but only if you have the Asset Manager resized small enough like this, to where the sidebar completely covers the assets list. Because currently I have to move my mouse all the way down again to click the button to close the sidebar.

image

This is currently what I have to go through:

  1. Move mouse down to click the “expand” button.
  2. Move mouse back up to select an inventory.
  3. Move mouse down again to click the “collapse” button.
  4. Move mouse back up to select filters.

One more thing, my username doesn’t fit when I resize the Asset Manager to be small enough to fit where the Toolbox used to be. Perhaps it could just be moved above the other buttons, if the Asset Manager is small enough.

image

When viewing “Places In Experience”, these filters should be automatically disabled, because they’re completely pointless here:

image

When I select my inventory and filter through my Models, then switch to “Places In Experience”, I have to manually reset all the filters, otherwise nothing will show up. Because, y’know, Places aren’t Models, and this section only displays Places.

One thing I never liked about the Toolbox is that, unlike every other tab, the “Plugins” tab didn’t let you insert your own created plugins - it only let you reinstall plugins that were already in your inventory. So in order to update my own plugins, I would often have to use assetdelivery to download the plugin as an .rbxm, so I could then open it in Studio, which is pretty bad UX. Could this please be added into the new Asset Manager? I just want to be able to quickly insert my plugin’s source just like inserting a Model.

I am going to start getting into the nitty gritty with my game and a bunch of pictures for all these purchasable tools this really comes in handy thank you!

Great update!

Would love to see a sound preview button in it though.

It would save lots of time looking through my uploaded sounds trying to find one fitting for the feature i’m building

Then a ParticleEmitter revamp… It would be cool to see particles traveling on splines or maybe an entire new way to work with particles like nodes in blender. (Wishful thinking)

This looks really nice, thanks for this!

I have a question though - you said that you are building these widgets in luau, right? Is this new Asset Manager built in luau as well? If so, how does the “View in Browser” button work?
