It’s not that easy to just give everyone audio access again. It’s about roblox’s own safety, they obviously do not want another lawsuit.

Clearly not since they haven’t made any meaningful measures to block uploading copyrighted material, countless teams are still using copyrighted music/material in their projects. This all started because people started making some serious money off of copyrighted material on the platform, and due to them mostly being minors and ROBLOXs policy to privacy (the irony there is hillarious), companies who were affected were prevented from going after the actual problems.
ROBLOX has the money to properly fund an actual solution, countless genres in the community have been left decimated due to this change, genres that count on lore accuracy and authenticity. Things that the original audio material provide.
Perhaps
Or
Hell, even fair use could be argued for some of the copyright use cases. But the fact of the matter is, the trashy developers who wanted to skeet by and do the bare minimum to make some money on this platform have ruined it for the rest of the people just trying to make fun experiences based on their favorite franchises.
EDIT: I really wish they let you see edits you made, because you clearly edited your post removing what you said that warranted my response in the first place lol
This update actually lags me so damn much, I forgot to say.
I’ve noticed that when you search for something you can’t filter out the sound effects from the songs.
(At least you can’t in the toolbox, idk if its the same for the marketplace)
hopefuly they actually make material packs easier to find through searching in toolbox instead of scrolling.
Thank you for all of your responses, we hear you and are working to address your feedback.
Will it be still free?
Seems good…
I find it really odd that Roblox says, “No public audio because we need to respect copyright matterial” but does not restrict uploading copyrighted UGC avatar content and actively says, “The owner needs to submit a DMCA request or we can’t do anything about it.”
These can not both be true at the same time. Either Roblox can proactively moderate content (like audio), or they can only respond to DMCA claims (like avatar items). Why can’t we upload public audio to sell and the owners can just DMCA copyright material…? It’s been stated on official announcements that’s how it MUST work for copyright material…
Anyways onto less salty and more directly actionable things: one of the most important things for my use case of audio has always been a pain on Roblox, finding sounds that loop. There is no consistent and accessible way to find sounds or music that loop. BGM in a game needs to loop seamlessly or it becomes jaring. Sound effects that are constant need to loop seamlessly or it becomes jarring. Roblox has never provided a solution to this.
Because of this I actively avoid Roblox’s audio catalog. I have to look elsewhere for audio I can get the rights to use that I can find based on this requirment.
We haven’t won yet, but we’ve waited so long that I am actually thankful they made a statement at all about…you know. In my opinion it is way more honest than the original privacy announcement from last year which felt like we were being punished.
I am part of a community that makes fictional vehicles. These fictional vehicles are frequently released to the public with the intent that they can be used by anyone, for any project. Ever since the audio privacy changes, we have been severely limited to a very small selection of engine sounds, not to mention other small foley effects that your current sound libraries don’t always cover. 15-20 seconds is all we need for the vast majority of what we would want to make available publicly, and it would be massively appreciated if sounds like these could be made available for all to use without forced privacy. I understand you (Roblox) are trying to stay compliant with copyright laws, but something like this should be a happy middle ground while you work on longer-term solutions.
I would like more music by Monstercat because currently the catalog of music offered is quite limited. (I would like to see more titles by Desert Star, Conro and WRLD if possible)
I have 2 things in mind:
Thank you, this is very helpful.
I like the audios you offer but these sounds are adapted more for films than for video games.
It’s almost as if they’re trying to force this on us.
actively working on finding ways to make it happen while ensuring we respect copyright laws.
What makes audio any different than the UGC catalog?
From what I understand, you can’t take down supposedly copyright-infringing UGC unless you get a takedown request from the copyright owner, so wouldn’t the same apply to audio?
Furthermore, you do have a copyright detection system for audio uploads (which does unfortunately false-flag sometimes with no chance of appealing), so why is that insufficient?
I absolutely agree with you. Additionally, audio is FREE while UGC that contains (or is outright a reproduction of) copyrighted content is SOLD, meaning the person who created it earns Robux (see real money! Audio is free but must remain private to respect copyright, but can people sell copyrighted content? I hope they eventually give us more information on this outage called “Audio Privacy”…
Would it be possible to add a setting that would allow you to hide the creator and tags? I personally have my toolbox squished down to see my workplace better, but since I presume this update, it has made it hard for me to see the name of the audio.
What work is being to…
A lot of developers’ progress and workflow has been desecrated due to the audio update, mine included. Nothing short of progress is just a spit in the face to those affected.
Be careful now, having that kind of sound logic leads to people getting banned!
In all seriousness, I completely agree. This obvious weak ended response is what ROBLOXians are going to have to get used to. ROBLOX is wasting their time and efforts on creating new features that no one asked for, instead of helping fix and better the features that are becoming broken or borderline unusable.
