Next Gen Explorer has officially rolled out!

Update June 28, 2025

Hey Creators,

The Next Gen Explorer has now officially been rolled out to everyone, and the beta listing has been removed.

Explorer has been rebuilt from the ground up in Luau, now allowing it to performantly handle hundreds of thousands or even millions of instances. For more details on the improvements we’ve made check out our beta release post from December. We also released numerous fixes and improvements based on your feedback in April when we started to roll this out to more creators, which you can check out here.

We really appreciate your continued feedback in this final round before rolling out to everyone – we’ve been hard at work resolving the issues you’ve reported. Here are some of our most recent updates:

  1. Cleaned up blurry explorer text, specifically on high DPI monitors
  2. Added support for custom icon sets
  3. Improved Explorer multi-select behavior to better match creators’ expectations
  4. Added back team create presence in explorer
  5. Made improvements to box select
  6. Resolved bugs that caused pressing ‘F to focus’ to be unreliable
  7. Fixed issues with instances appearing in search but not in an unfiltered Explorer
  8. …and many, many more bugs and improvements!

Check out the documentation to learn more about interacting with the new Explorer.

When can I expect to see the changes?

We’re rolling out to all users today – once you update Studio, the old explorer will no longer be available, and all creators will be using the new version of Explorer.

What’s Next

Keep the feedback coming! This isn’t the end – we want to continue to make the Explorer better and allow you to create awesome experiences faster. Stay tuned for even more awesome Explorer improvements coming next year!

Special thanks to @Dogekidd2012, @tnavarts, @pensive_penguin, @CaiusCosades0, @jimjamjomj, and @wengawenga for their work on this feature.

This update is very disappointing.

There’s currently no way to disable these “subcategories”

Please fix this as it ruins a lot of developers’ workflow.

This would be a great update only if “Show Orientation Indicator” and the action icons were still on the context menu

And if you guys didn’t change how CTRL + Shift + Click worked.

After all, what was the TBD option when right-clicking scripts?

Everyone who would saber rattle about React, please just pretend I shared your complaint here. Grrr performance grrr C++ good Luau bad.

RIP to the old QT Explorer. I will not miss you.

Why remove old explorer completely? A great solution would be an optional checkbox in studio settings for the new generation explorer.

They forgot do add Sync to Disk…

So uh, yeah the new explorer legit is objectively too big. With the old explorer I could have at least 15 parts in the workspace with the already existing spawnlocation etc. now I can have like 5-10. I legit cannot expand more than 1-2 services at a time with this while not having to scroll for ages to the bottom.

Toggle Scripts, the complication being that it changes its name dynamically based on your selection–I’m assuming you’re asking for curiosity and not that it’s still happening to you

True, another thing is that the Hierarchy coloring is too confusing with the actual selected instance.

Great now renaming instances is super annoying all of a sudden because I was used to just clicking the name of an instance, waiting half a second and it would let me rename, now it unfolds its children and I need click it a 3rd time and wait 1 full second. I do like the name incrementing option though

Is there still an optional way to disable it? I have found that I’m not a huge fan of the different sorting as it slows down my workflow.

Another concern I have with this is most previous Youtube tutorials on Roblox Studio will now be irrelevant and it seems that Roblox Studio is going to start decreasing in developers because of this, as most of us learned from Youtube.

We don’t want it forced on us, It was better when it was an optional feature!!! not all developers like this change

It’d be nice if the max frametime taken by the Explorer was limited when searching. The textbox locks up when I’m searching and it makes typing annoying. (Would attach video but currently on mobile)

Also, the lack of customization despite now being the perfect time for it (since now it’s Roact) was a bit disappointing

I’ll be better waste my time on rewriting it myself than trying to live with this garbage. Sorry guys who worked hardly on it, but it is.

  1. No contrast of selection
  2. Big gaps between text
  3. Big text
  4. Shift selection is weird
  5. Right click panel is just wrong
  6. Performance is bad
  7. Search bar is TWICE AS BIG

And the only 2 good things are:

  1. Modern
  2. Lua-written

I would now spend my last week of life rewritting this, instead of working on game before going to army. Sad.

It’s great to see that the new Gen Explorer is now officially rolled out!
I’d like to report two bugs I’ve encountered:

  1. I already mentioned this in the previous announcement, but when there are many disabled scripts, some still appear as enabled in the Explorer:

  2. In the Properties panel for the “Beam” instance, the Color field doesn’t allow copying or pasting values.

I had it already for a while and I didn’t notice lol, judging by what everyone is complaining about people will get used to it super quickly.

It would at least be nice if objects would be properly sorted by name, especially now that there’s auto name incrementing

The tweaks are good, but unfortunately highlighting objects and relocating models between folders in the Explorer still causes a large amount of performance lag and roblox crashes that are unrecoverable other than simply starting new sessions. Not really noticing the speed and performance changes but I appreciate it if they are there!
