Next Gen Studio - Preparing for Takeoff! [Beta]

It will probably move soon. We still have some menu updates to do. In the meantime, you’re welcome to add it to a tab…

I’ve tried the custom tag. The idea is good because, in different scenarios, you can have different custom buttons in different custom tabs, such as modeling related tools or UI building related tools. However, as a replacement for the quick access bar, it feels inadequate. When I hide the names of the buttons, I expect it to be as small as possible, just like the old quick access bar, but it only reduces one line. Plus, the new topbar is already bigger than the old one, and now it takes up twice as much space.

I remember you mentioned there would be Stylesheets to customize styles like size and color, but it seems they aren’t finished yet. I think this is important, especially with small screens. Looking at the Explorer window in the old and new UIs, the new one just feels too big. With the topbar minimized, I could view 18 items in the Explorer in the old UI, but only 12 items in the next-gen Explorer. Also, I’m using Bright Mode, and I find it hard to focus on the names of instances or buttons. I’m not sure of the exact reason, but here are some possibilities:

  • The color of the text is gray, but the color of the icons is colorful, so it’s harder to focus on the text than the icons. The old one had all text in black.
  • The grey text blends into the background, making the Explorer items seem inactive.
  • When an item is selected, the background is blue, but the text is still gray. In the past, there would be greater contrast because the icon and text became white, with solid blue background.
  • The text is a little blurry, as many people have pointed out.

Overall looks like a good direction. Only issue is not sure if It’s just me or I’m blind but where’s the Upload button for uploading/importing assets?

Creating new tabs is an amazing feature. Wow!!

Please give us the option to use the old UI when this is added. Im not a fan and I know many people who arent, Honestly IMO the current UI is ways better

Look, im not saying change is bad. Change is great! But this is way too much all at once. Change stuff slowly, dont just force a whole new ui on us. Its going to be EXTREMELY hard to adjust because most of us go off our reflexes when selecting something from there, so having you change it completely messes everything up

FIX THIS BEFORE YOU RELEASE DAMNIT

That’s exactly what I said, you can disable it in the beta settings, but their going force it on everyone UNLESS my suggestion gets accepted and Roblox realizes how badly the new UI sucks.

along with this I guess

I don’t think any of us could care less that we’re unfamiliar with the ui, it just has so many issues that the old one doesn’t! Why replace something that’s not destroyed?

There are so many issues and topics to cover here, it’s overwhelming. I try to give my initial thoughts here, but it scratches the surface. It needs more time to bake. Feel free to x2 the video.

Also, why the hell is file, edit, view, plugins, window and help tabs so much damn smaller than the other buttons??? It was fine when they were in the same ribbon!

Im so glad you noticed too, there is A LOT of wasted space at the top. Why is it so big?? The ui shouldnt take up that much room. Give us more room for our actual game to view.

This This This. Ive also been developing for almost 10 years, but even players who have been doing it for way less time have muscle memory when it comes to the ui. The way theyve separated everything sucks and it takes up way too much space.

How to keep using the old studio?

You can open the beta features tab by clicking on FILE on the top left of your screen, then scroll down to “Next Gen Studio preview” and uncheck the box next to it

I think they meant once its forced on us

Once it’s forced on you then your just gonna have to get use to it. Roblox has their reasons for upgrading the UI and it’s because they want to move away from using QT and the current studio just isn’t performant for what they’re wanting to do.

Plus roblox is not going to support two branches of studio, if you want new features you’ve gotta use the new studio.

We arent asking for a second branch? We asked to have an option for the old ui :sob: :sob: :sob: like if they can have an option for the new ui right now they can have an option for the old ui when its added, but idc dawg i aint beefin with no kids on the devforum :sob: :sob: :sob:
