Introducing RoRender v4: A New Chapter in Roblox Minimap Creation
Hello fellow Roblox developers,
After many years since the development of RoRender V3 and countless conversations with creators like you, I’m excited to share RoRender v4 with our community. This tool represents something I’ve been passionate about since I created the first version back in college: giving Roblox developers the power to create maps that enhance gameplay and immerse players in our worlds. What began as a simple solution has evolved into something I believe will make maps/minimaps much more common on Roblox.
Why This Matters
RoRender v3 had clear technical limitations. It was a simple raytracing tool that produced similar-looking maps regardless of the game genre or style. Many developers either settled for generic maps or skipped minimaps entirely because the customization options just weren’t there.
The feedback was consistent: racing games couldn’t properly highlight their tracks, RPGs couldn’t distinguish between different zones, and games with custom meshes couldn’t represent them accurately. These weren’t minor inconveniences, they were fundamental barriers to creating maps that actually served their games.
RoRender v4 directly addresses these limitations with concrete solutions. It’s not about promises or hype, it’s about giving you practical tools to create maps that match your specific vision.
Easy Integration For Everyone
If you’re already using RoRender v3, upgrading is straightforward, just update your image and settings. For those new to minimaps, Plum’s minimap system pairs perfectly with RoRender to get you up and running quickly. I’ve focused on making this accessible regardless of your experience level.
The Tools We’ve Been Missing
The heart of RoRender v4 is its “Photoshop like” editor with a robust set of features including:
- Building Overlay - Give your structures the visual emphasis they deserve
- Road Overlay - Create pathways that guide players naturally
- Material Overlay - Let your terrain materials inform your map design
- Dynamic Depth Water Coloring - Water that actually looks like water
- Automatic Zones/Boundaries - Define gameplay areas without the tedium
- Contour Lines - Add that professional cartographic touch
- Targeted Texture Effects - Apply textures with precision
- Custom Outlines - Add definition exactly where needed
And many more capabilities that allow for unprecedented levels of customization. The editor is designed to grow with your needs, offering both simple adjustments and advanced techniques depending on your requirements.
Technical Improvements That Matter
- Mesh Rendering Support - Your custom meshes finally get proper representation
- Optimized Performance - Gathering more data without sacrificing speed
- Cloud-Powered Workflow - A seamless experience from start to finish
A Fair Approach to Pricing
I wanted to make sure RoRender v4 works for everyone:
-
The rendering plugin is open source - Because I want developers to be able to customize exactly how their maps looks at the raytracing level.
-
RoRender.com offer flexible options:
- Credit-based pricing for smaller projects or occasional updates
- Subscription model for games with ongoing development needs
The Journey Behind the Tool
RoRender began as a simple project during my college years. Looking back at that early code it was honestly terrible. I had no idea what I was doing on the application side of things, and frankly not much more understanding on the rendering side.
What’s interesting is that despite the poor code quality, it somehow became the go-to minimap solution for Roblox. The reason, I believe, was my singular focus on improving the user experience. My only goal was to make it easier for developers to create minimaps for their games, and that user centered approach resonated with the community more than any technical brilliance.
Now, years later and with professional development experience, I’ve been able to rebuild it from the ground up. User experience has increased significantly, as well as a whole new rehlm of customization that was not availible to the developer beforehand.
Community-Driven Development
RoRender v4 wouldn’t exist without your input. This release already incorporates numerous suggestions from beta testers, and that collaborative approach is central to how I want to develop this tool moving forward.
While I’m still working on comprehensive documentation, the current interface is designed to be intuitive. I’m actively building out tutorials and guides based on the questions and feedback I receive.
Your ideas matter, they aren’t just “feature requests” that disappear into a void. They directly shape what RoRender becomes. If you have suggestions for improvements or new capabilities, please share them here or in our Discord.
See It In Action

Let’s Build Together
- Share your thoughts through our Discord
- Contribute to the open-source plugin if you’re technically inclined
- Current limitations: Images are capped at 7k x 7k (balancing quality with performance for all players)
RoRender v4 represents years of learning, coding, and listening to what our community needs. It’s built by a developer, for developers, with the singular goal of elevating what’s possible with minimaps on Roblox.
I can’t wait to see the amazing maps you’ll create, and how they’ll enhance the experiences you’re building for players around the world.
