Our commitment to safety and user privacy is a key priority at Roblox. To strengthen safety for all users, we’re testing some changes to the server list page to make it more difficult for users to be targeted or disrupted by people they aren’t connected with (such as during a stream or for unwanted interaction). These updates are designed to balance easy connection with enhanced privacy.
As a reminder, the server list page can be found on the experience details page.
We know the server list is a valuable tool for both you and your users, so please share your feedback on how to make this feature as beneficial and safe as possible.
What We’ll Be Testing
Over the next few months, we will be testing some changes to the server list page:
Limiting the number of servers a user can browse on the server list page
Limiting the server list API to logged-in users only
Providing additional ways to sort and filter servers
These changes will impact both the server list UI as well as the underlying API for fetching the servers: games.roblox.com/v1/games/{placeId}/servers/Public.
What will not change at this time:
The existing options to sort by Descending/Ascending order and filter by Exclude Full Servers.
The Private Servers and Servers My Connections Are In sections.
Creators will not be restricted when loading more servers in experiences they have edit access to.
What’s Next
We’re actively exploring future enhancements that will give you better insight into your game servers and provide new ways to manage and find specific ones. We will be sharing more as soon as we can.
We appreciate your understanding and feedback as we work to make Roblox a safer and more welcoming space for everyone.
im confused, how is limiting the number of servers a user can browse on the server list page a benefit in any way?
if youre worried about people sifting through servers to find people, then wouldnt the better idea be to remove the avatar icons? they honestly dont have a usecase anyways
On mobile can you add a way not to join friends? Sometimes my friends are in dead servers with like 1 or 2 people when I just wanna be on a server with more people. I use the server page as a hacky way to not join my friends by switching on ascending and guessing which server will fill up with people (server that was just made)
I could see the benefit of limiting to logged-in only and the extra filters. However, if we must be filtered on how many we see, could we at least filter servers by server regions for better performance and less latency?
Good change, but I believe regardless of any safety measures, a user should always be able to see all servers. While some people may use it for malicious purposes, with the past updates, the ability to target a specific person has greatly been patched. If there are still ways to do it however, Roblox should focus on patching those ways rather than limiting users.
Over correcting yet again? Or trying to specifically hide something from general public view? Do not do this. This does nothing to improve privacy nor security. The server list is an important features a lot of users (myself included) use on a daily basis to find a suitable game server for our needs.
This really does nothing to change anything meaningful in our favor. Games will compensate by creating their own (even more public) server lists.
Please consider letting the developer(s) still see the server lists at the very least. It helps a lot. I would like to know who is in my experience – and I think developers deserve to know who is in their experience at anytime. It helps to investigate reports of broken servers, exploiters, or locating malicious behavior quickly.
Furthermore, as an added suggestion. Please consider letting developers lock individual servers. There are instances I do not want to disrupt my audience in a particular server, but do not want any further players from joining - basically a non-intrusive way to slowly let an individual server die. An example being a problematic server that I would like to phase out but not necessarily kick everyone currently in that server out.
If we can be compensated for the trade-off through the extra filters, perhaps these can be useful:
Servers by Region
Servers by state/province
Servers by age
Servers by primary language
And to add alongside that, if we can have a specific server order by having the user with least followers appear first and have the ones with the most hidden in the “+1” sectors that hide the rest, it can keep notable users hidden.
all this does is make it so regular players can’t join random servers, or good servers
[to an extent- of course we still have some but some aint all ]
Seriously, a lot of games have a lot of servers, sometimes you join a server and the majority of players in that server don’t speak your language or they all absolutely suck at playing the game or sometimes you wanna join a nice server or a specific server is laggy - for this, we need to be able to see all the servers
Also if this is for privacy, can’t it be bypassed? Scenario:
Streamer is in a server, it’s currently hidden from maybe 50% of users looking at the server list.. Couldn’t you find a random player in the streamer’s server [through the player list via stream], go to their profile, and join..? [Of course not everyone would have the join option, but some would..?]
I kind of have a use case for them. In cases where I want to rejoin a server I’m in, but none of my friends are in it, if the game is small enough then I can find the server that has my avatar icon in it (as well as the avatar icons of others in the server) and use that to join back.
Is that the intended use case for the icons? Probably not. But it’s still technically a use case.
Why? What exactly does this achieve? What will the limit be?
Will this include being able to join servers closer to you?
^ Now that I think about it, there really isn’t any real reason we need to be able to see the avatars of users in a server, what is that even for? It should just be replaced by server information such as the region or version.
I think they should actually make a search bar for searching for a user that is playing your game. So if you get a bug report, you can paste their username in search bar and join them to see what the issue is.
