Next Gen Explorer now available for everyone!

We definitely want to redo the context menus in general, don’t know when we’ll get to it. Right now it just directly uses the Qt context menu behavior. Which is… not great, as you identify.

just glad to hear it’s on the road map

Hi, @Dogekidd2012 said that this bug was going to be fixed, but it still keeps happening.

Hovering my mouse on things outside of the explorer window or even hovering on other objects in the explorer window sometimes causes the highlighting to mess up.

Adding on, for some reason, even when I’m not clicking anything, it expands the children of an Instance when I hover over it?

???

Which features? Are you concerned that Publish to Package would be in the sub-menu as well?

Because the core package workflow steps are actually broken out of the sub-menu, they’re just contextual now so you aren’t seeing them without having a change to the package:

For some reason, when I scroll, it also pretty much makes my fps go as low as 19.

Are we going to get Select Children/Select Parent(s) functionality back?

They’re still there, just under the Hierarchy submenu. Do you use these frequently enough that them being in a submenu is problematic? If so could you describe the workflow you’re using them in?

Ah, thanks. And honestly I do not. They are just extremely helpful when the use case arrises.

Yeah, I use them often too, but it’s the kind of command I use once per session or something like that, where it being in a submenu isn’t an issue.

i suspect this is probably known but reporting it here in case it isnt. The + button overlaps my text

Is the ability to change the font size on the roadmap for the new explorer as well as the ability to adjust the hierarchical indentation? I’d prefer a much smaller font and the ability to see more items within the explorer, and it is much harder to determine what is parented to what instance.

Not sure if this has been said already, but “TBD” shows when right-clicking module scripts:

I think that the highlight should be brightened, the contrast between the parent and children background is very low.

E.g. Like so:

Difficult though, the background was made lighter which is at odds with the text color.

In the previous Explorer, holding shift would dramatically increase the scrolling speed. Can this be implemented again? It was super useful for scrolling through models/folders with lots of children.

Edit 1: Not sure if this is a bug, but folders/models now expand after hovering for a short amount of time. If this is a feature, can there be a setting to disable it? It causes the unintentional opening of folders when selecting multiple instances with Ctrl/Shift.

Edit 2: Items in the explorer are hovered when the mouse is on the Viewport or the Properties. It’s particularly frustrating because keeping your mouse anywhere for too long starts expanding random items in the Explorer.

Will colored folders be out eventually? It seems like it would be very easy to implement, and there have been multiple feature requests for this over the past 9 years.

This is cool! So far, with the next-gen explorer, I always had to copy or cut an object and paste it somewhere else (and God forbid to either cut, copy and paste an object in the explorer while you are editing a script, because it wouldn’t happen) instead of dragging it because it was so frustrating that it either didn’t scroll or was too slow.
How about being able to split the explorer (or being able to have more than one explorer window) so that instead of having to drag and scroll to the target, we can drag and drop just where we want it without scrolling?
In your example, where you only move an object, dragging and scrolling is fine; but what about when you refactor (we programmers love to do it quite often) your experience and code (yet again) and need to relocate several objects?
And drag and drop in two different Studio windows because I am editing two experiences?

Loving the update! Some suggestions:

  1. I liked being able to scroll through the old explorer faster by holding shift. It doesn’t seem like I’m able to do it with the new explorer. Here’s scrolling normally and then scrolling while holding shift in the old explorer:

  2. I like that we have the option to increment names of new instances. Can we also have an option to do the same for instances that get added to a parent by other means, say, by ungrouping a model? Something I do often while making games is grouping parts into models to make copy-pasting a large amount of them easier, and then ungrouping them all into the same parent.

  3. Can the sort order be changed to sort instances with numbers in names sequentially? The fact that Part100 and Part10 come before Part2 has bugged me for a while:

  4. Nitpick, but I also liked seeing the shortcut for searching for instances in the search box (see image). The old explorer did it, and so does the current properties widget.

I specifically tested this and I thought that it was working?
