This week was a busy one, from introducing Rewarded Video Ads to fully releasing Unified Lighting. So ICYMI, check out our weekly roundup of updates below.
Remember - we keep information at a high level within these recaps. For more information or to leave feedback, please comment on their official announcements linked below.
More creators can now integrate Rewarded Video ads into their experiences, providing another way to earn. Eligible creators earn Robux for every ad shown within their experience, and early tests have shown that users who view ads spend more Robux within experiences.
Creators own the implementation within their game, including reward prompt, frequency, reward value, and reward type, while users can choose whether they want to engage with the ad or not in order to earn their reward.
We’re excited to announce that Unified Lighting has been fully released and is now live in all experiences.
We will automatically map your old Lighting.Technology property to the new ones (Lighting.LightingStyle & Lighting.PrioritizeLightingQuality) to ensure parity with your previous lighting look and feel.

To help creators around the world learn how to create avatar items, we’re excited to share that the following videos now have Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Thai human translated subtitles:
Alright this week of update wasn’t that bad. Finally some improvements to their AI. I know people aren’t too thrilled about that, but its not bad for Solo devs, etc.
Creator Rewards is debatable, this can be a good update or a bad update. I think this simply needs time for the community to utilize this feature to see it’s impact on the games. But it will hurt Smaller creators/games that needs premium payouts to earn revenue.
Unified Lighting is not bad. I do like more customization to the lighting, while having ability to recreate “Voxel” and “Shadowmap” technologies. (Unknown for anyone who experience this) I have been getting a lot of micro-stutters since this update released.
[I even attempted to drop my resolution to 720p and still experienced micro stutters]
Anyways, decent week of updates with some good improvements.
Not much positive stuff to talk about this week if I am being honest.
We got a response by roblox about connections being renamed but it just sounds very very silly.
Roblox should have left friends as is. The term “friends” was working for 18 years and suddenly it can’t be possible to have that term on the platform no more? If you need to make changes specifically for investors then redirect their pages to a version of the website that does replace friends with connections. Or maybe add a GuiService.PreferredConnectionName so we can pick what word replaces “Friends”.

My rating: 16/40
This week was very lackluster for announcements. I wasn’t really excited for any of the announcements. So the announcements were:
AI stuff (eh)
Fixing avatar issues that should have been fixed before large accessories were a thing. (but I guess thank you for it… even if the fix was late)
AI textures improvements (eh)
Lowering the bar to use a Ad API that very little experiences used. (Roblox needs money trust)
So basically half of the announcements this week were related to AI. The other two were also not really groundbreaking.

Just because this week’s announcement were meh, I do hope to see what is next week. This is just how I felt about the announcements of this week.
Absolutely loving the new Creator Rewards! As a small game only getting 500-1000 DAU, I was able to make 75 robux off my 500 visits yesterday. With premium payouts, this may have only netted me 20-40 robux. I expect this to outperform my premium payouts for the whole month in just a week.
I’ll be seeing 75 robux on September 25th, 2025!!
I don’t think the hate is deserved as long as it isn’t used for AI slop games.
My thoughts exactly!! Everyone is complaining about how the AI features will replace jobs and hurt the community. While this will definitely partially be the case in the future (not everyone will avoid AI assets in their final product), using AI generated rough-draft or placeholder assets is genuinely a good use for the technology IMO.
And this was also something that had no valid reason to be changed, like they did it just because they could. It throws a vibe of overly professional nonsense when in reality it’s a bunch of 8 year olds playing whatever game they are most interested in. They could’ve made “Connections” for connecting with other developers and left “Friends” for actual friends, to play games with.
You guys should be more formal and professional when writing posts for the community. Not everyone knows what ICYMI means and, of course, there are developers worldwide who will read the highlighted sentence without fully understanding it.
I am a native speaker and still had trouble reading the word, even getting confused about it being some sort of lighting technology or not.
Some of this is good, but I don’t like how much the change from friends to connections broke my game and other games. I think some ROBLOX staff forgot to do some updates, regardless, it’s fixed now.
Please add Proper Resampling to things other than ImageUI.
When uploading pixel art images, they become blurred when using Decals, Textures or TextureID for Meshes. There is no way to fix this other than to rescale images to higher resolutions, which wastes data. This fix also does NOT account for spritesheets, which can fill quick.
For example, if I have a 512x512 spritesheet with 64x64 tiles, which means I have 64 tiles (512/64)^2. Plenty of tiles.
However, the image is very blurry so 512 is not an option.
Instead, you have to choose 256x256, which is only 16 tiles a 75% decrease.
Please, Add an option for textures to have a ResampleMode just like ImageLabels and ImageButtons. This will allow pixel artists to effectively use your platform, cut down memory usage(surfaceUIs are more costly) and improve performance(less data to send).
Thank you for reading this, have a good day.
Still upset about the connections bs. Gonna have to give you an automatic 0/10 for that one, I’d like to thank you for playing. Better luck next time!
Had to take last week off, so this is late. Just read this now haha.
So its good that we’re expanding on creator rewards, but ad rewards doesn’t feel like Roblox. Like I get we’re seeking more ways to reward creators… but I would never implement ads into my games.
Also, loving the new avatar config page. A little more in depth than what we had before!
It’s a little bit better than last weeks… “connections”… still recovering from that.
